Migrant Voices Heard

Enhancing the participation of migrants through the creation of migrant councils

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The aim of the project is to promote refugee and migrant participation in the design and implementation of integration and related policies at the local, regional, and national levels in seven EU countries: Austria, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, and Romania.

More specifically, the project aims to:
  • Support the setting up and/or strengthening of 7 migrant councils, at local and regional level.
  • Promote the exchange of experiences between local and regional public authorities about the involvement of migrants in the design and implementation of integration policies.
  • Enhance the capacity of local and regional authorities to effectively consult migrants on policies that directly affect them.

We focus on the following challenges

The common perception of migrants as helpless victims/recipients of assistance who drain countries’ social welfare systems.

Migrant communities’ limited ability to self-organize and migrant-led organizations’ lack of advocacy skills.

The inability of local authorities to develop and actively involve migrant-led advisory committees due to a lack of motivation.
